Candy Sorting

After Trick-or-Treating, the girls came home to go through their bags.  When K. was two, I’m not sure she knew why people gave her candy, but N. was keenly aware of what was in her bag.DSC_7498.DSC_7499.DSC_7505.DSC_7510.

N. looks like she’s just innocently looking at her candy, but she managed to sink her teeth into a foil-wrapped chocolate before we could grab it away from her—or unwrap it!DSC_7513.

Little Red and Big Bad Halloween

Similar to last year, I wanted the girls to wear complimentary costumes for Halloween.  N. is young enough to not have a strong opinion, and K. actually came up with the idea of being Little Red Riding Hood on her own—or as she says, “Red Red Riding Hood.”DSC_7331.So I took a trip to the fabric store and got a fun pile of red, gray, and furry fabrics, and started sewing.  I hadn’t made a hood before on a garment, but they’re really straightforward.  I made the cape and lined it (which I think was actually easier than not lining it), and made a simple gingham skirt.DSC_7333.We just used a random red shirt she had.  Hey, why create what you don’t have to.  I mean, a shirt is a shirt.DSC_7341.And the little sister got stuck as the (Big) Bad Wolf.  I wanted her costume to be cute, not scary, and to just suggest a wolf—it didn’t need to be literal.  And I saved money by not making the entire thing out of faux fur.DSC_7348.And oh, what a cute little wolf she was!DSC_7353.They were such a cute pair!  It’s not the most unique costume pairing in the world—and we even ran into another red riding hood while we were out—but they really enjoyed it and it seemed well-suited for them.DSC_7470.DSC_7472.We trick-or-treated with our neighbors (Iron Man and an Equestrian).  Sorry, random neighbor in this picture—I tried to snap the photo before the door opened.DSC_7482.DSC_7487.Funny expressions.  N’s look says, “Get me out of here,” but she hung on as long as the older kids did.  This picture was taken by this particular tree because—why else—it’s red.  K. was insistent.DSC_7491.My favorite part was N’s tail, which swished when she walked.DSC_7493.She was so cute walking up to people’s doors.  K. was so helpful with her (as were our other two friends) and they helped her with the steps.  Much candy was collected, but I’m not going to lie: N’s bag was more full.  She would stand at the door with her bag and look up with her pretty eyes and fuzzy ears and people wouldn’t be able to stop putting candy in her bag.  Then she’d say “tanks” in her little voice and they’d add another piece, almost without thinking about it.DSC_7494.

Ruffles in the Forest

After K’s Fall Party at school, we stopped briefly in the woods near our house.  I let the girls run in the leaves a little and snapped pictures until my camera battery died.DSC_7413.

Sisterly looooove.DSC_7415.DSC_7416.DSC_7425.

Beautiful K.  She requested a red butterfly on her face, as red is her favorite color right now.DSC_7427.DSC_7428.DSC_7429.

N’s a bit goofy at times.  She has a lot of spunk.DSC_7434.DSC_7439.DSC_7440.DSC_7464.DSC_7468.

Pumpkin Patch N

We didn’t get to go to the pumpkin patch as a family this year—between soccer practices and naptimes and poor weather, we weren’t able to fit it in.  N. and I took a quick trip one morning while K. was at school.

There were some huge pumpkins!DSC_7385.And much running.DSC_7386.DSC_7387.

And there were three white-ish pumpkins.  N. amused herself (and me) by walking to each one and saying “hi” in greeting.DSC_7392.DSC_7397.DSC_7403.It was fairly cold and the sun was only out for, like, the first five minutes of our visit, so we didn’t say particularly long.

Hiking Baby

I borrowed a backpack from a friend and took the baby hiking while her big sister was at school.  The weather was beautiful so we went to a nearby state park and walked through the leaves.  They have several nice hiking trails and we even saw a few deer!IMG_0131

The hiking made her quite relaxed and she spent most of the time snuggled up to me.IMG_0135

When we were almost at the end of the hike, I let N. get down to stomp through the leaves herself.  She found a big stick—and spoke softly.IMG_0146IMG_0155

Beautiful Ballerina

K. finished her six-week session of ballet and had her recital.  They did a princess dance, so the girls got to dress in princess outfits.  This isn’t her normal street-wear.IMG_0107.And with her sweet teacher!IMG_0116.

Fall Field Trip

K. went on her first field trip!  Their class went to a nearby orchard (the same one we’ve gone to as a family several times).  I think K. was glad that I was able to come along, but she was mostly focused on the things we were learning.  They wore their green school shirts for the trip, so I had to make some matching bows, of course.DSC_7201.

Listening to a presentation about apples, how they’re grown, and how to pick them.DSC_7206.

The four apples she picked off of the tree.  She helped me pick my four as well.DSC_7215.

With her teacher.  She loves her teacher so much, and has so much fun in her class.DSC_7219.

On a hayride with her classmates (and many of their parents).DSC_7224.

Picking her pumpkin.  Very pleased that all of the tractors on the farm were International.  I don’t know what we would have done if something else was pulling they wagon for the hayride.DSC_7233 (2).Mother-daughter self-photography.DSC_7238.

And they had some time to play in the giant play area.DSC_7240.

Tossing International-themed bean bags.  Her aim is decent for being a four-year-old and she actually got some in the hole.DSC_7244.

Gigantic pumpkin!DSC_7248.

In the hay maze with her buddy T.  He has a different teacher at school, but their classes went together on the trip.DSC_7251.
