Sister Stories

N. was playing in her crib, so I tossed K. in there to play with her—or at least to coexist.  I gave K. some books to read, a rotating supply, and it kept her happy while N. looked on.Perhaps some day I’ll convince K. to read aloud to N, but I’ll take this for now.  (It is not important that K. can’t read yet—it’s the thought that counts).The two sisters.  I remember that K. was sitting up at 5 months (actually, the first day she sat up for more than three seconds was on her five-month birthday), so I’ve been trying to prop N. upright more.  She did it for long enough to allow me to get her to smile and to take a picture, but I would not say she has mastered the skill yet.A random picture of K.  Dad got a new lazar level which came with these crazy glasses, and K. modeled them for Dad.   “Whoa, did you see that last picture?  I think my big sister is crazy!”

Forming Friendships

We hosted playgroup this past week, and happily, even N. had a friend to play with!  Her new friend A., who she visited in the hospital just after she was born, got to come!  Even though only a month has passed, the girls look so much different now!

Then (an entire month ago…actually, might be a couple days short of a month ago):

Now (N, five months old, A, one month old): I know the little ones aren’t even that aware of each other yet—even K. has only begun to actually play with other children. It is my prayer for my girls that they’ll be surrounded by great friends, and it always makes me happy to see them making friends.  And it’s always good when their friends’ moms are people Mama likes to hang out with…funny how that happens.  Must be a coincidence.

Baskets Full

Since the girls didn’t actually know to expect anything in their Easter baskets, we were able to open them leisurely in the evening rather than in a rush before leaving for church. As you can see, N. was actually interested to see what was in hers. And she investigates the toys as K. flips through her new book of stickers. K. is a pretty calm, focused gal at times: notice that she hasn’t even looked at the rest of the things in her basket yet, but pauses to play with each gift as she takes it out. And N’s sweet baby arm pudge!

Easter Joy

Eggcellent Morning

We went to our annual Easter Egg hunt at church this morning, and K. had fun.  She’s old enough to have a better idea of what is going on, and really liked carrying her basket around with her.  While we were rehearsing (Mom participated in some music), K. danced on the stage with us, then she enjoyed the show and hunted for eggs.

Mom played guitar and piano (not at the same time) while her friend S. and her daughter lead the singing and motions. They are so cute singing together!  I wonder if someday one of my daughters will be interested in singing with me.  I don’t know if K. is outgoing enough, so perhaps I’ll pin my hopes on N.  But a shout out to Little S, who did a great job!K. sat quietly with her friend M. while Mom played and Dad ran the power point.  I’m so thankful for friends!

K, Dad, and one of the eggs she found.  We’ll have pictures later of the hunt itself.  As you can see by their speckled shirts, it drizzled and I didn’t take the camera outside.  I think we’re going to stage some pictures during the next sunny day. And unlike last year, when she didn’t actually get to eat any of the candy, K. consumed several pieces of chocolate while Dad and I each thought the other was watching her. N. with her friend A.  They were born at the same hospital and are three days apart!  N. with her friend M. (who hung out with K. during the singing).  The girls have the same jacket, so we couldn’t resist a picture! And speaking of N, her friends, and matching, we took her jacket off and she matched her other friends!  S. (who lead the singing) was wearing green stripes too, and her brother had green (no surprise: it’s currently his favorite color). It was a fun morning, despite the rain, and I can’t wait for N. to be toddling around collecting her own eggs next year!

Five Fabulous Months

Sweet little N. is five months old!  Here are my sweet girls, having a little pre-Easter celebration.  Since Easter is a pretty hectic day for me (working), we opened a couple of Easter gifts and Easter cards early.  Then I did my favorite activity: sitting the girls together and setting myself up for failure.  I’ve found that N. has really become a smiley little gal.  Thank goodness someone in the family is!  I think she’s going to be the social one, as she tends to cry when people leave even now, and she’s not old enough for separation anxiety.  She just likes having people around.  And of course, two pictures in which the girls take turns smiling:

K: “Mo-om, she’s touching me!” –for real!  N. would touch K’s hair or back—because she’s at that phase now—and K. would get upset.  I am so glad our minivan has captain chairs in the middle row. 

N: “Tee hee—my sister has no idea what she’s in for!”

K: “Oh. My. Goodness.  Are we done with the pictures yet?”

In Full Bloom

The first flower of spring has arrived! And what a cute little flower she is!

Quite Contrary

Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow?     With a little help from Dad, of course.

K, in panicked voice, upon getting dirt on her Croc: “Oh, no—garden on shoe!”
