My Little Girlies

Since my mom saved all of my toys from childhood, and I have some of them here, a treat for K. is to let her play with my My Little Pony collection.  (P.S. Sorry for N’s lack of an outfit—I had her try on a shirt I was making so I could adjust the straps, and since bedtime was close I just left her in her diaper rather than putting on clothes). N. contemplates her pony: “You’re not getting me in this picture, right Mom?  Just the ponies?  I don’t want to be in the picture.” 

   K: “Are you done with the camera yet?”

N: “Blech.  Pony hair.”

“Must…get…to…ponies…”Did I mention that little N. can push up?  She looks like she might take off at any moment.  I don’t know that she will, but she sure makes a convincing show of trying.

In other news, N. just had her six month checkup.  She’s just over 26 inches tall and is a meaty 17 pounds, 11 ounces.  I compared her records with those of K, and they seem to be growing similarly.  K. was an inch taller at birth and a pound (plus an ounce) heaver; they still had a pound and an inch difference at 4 months and now at 6 months.

Jumping for Joy

N. has been spending some time in her Tigger bouncer, so I asked K. to demonstrate jumping so her sister could learn how.  She was in the right mood, so she complied. Then she helped sister jump up and down.  Note the look of joy on N’s face!  K. was just as smiley.Happy!

The Many Faces of N.

Here’s her normal happy self.  I love seeing this face, and it always puts a smile on my face.  I have to say, though, that the last picture in this bunch is my favorite. Daddy calls this next one her “bitter beer face.” Sweet, sweet girl. “Sumo baby very angry!”

Crafty Hedgehog

K. had a hand-me-down shirt with a random picture on it, and it was pretty boring so she never wore it.  I decided to try out an appliqué technique, and found a great tutorial online to make a hedgehog appliqué.  I decided to put a bow in her hair, since she’s a girly hedgehog, and used rhinestones for her eye and nose.  Then, I realized the shirt didn’t really look great with jeans, and was only passable with khakis.  I had only gotten a quarter yard of the plaid fabric, but contemplated making a matching skirt (I do love the matching).  I had read recently that skirts are just rectangles, and I thought I’d try to make one.  Unfortunately, the fabric looked like it might be a little short.But fortunately, I found a piece of cotton quilt binding in my drawer, passed along from my grandma.  The pink matched the skirt perfectly and lengthened the skirt to be an acceptable length.And I made a matching hair accessory, of course.  It’s just a simple “yo yo,” and I figured out how to make it based on this tutorial, and added a covered button for the center.   

Now all I need is a model who is willing to stand politely for the camera.

Playgroup Buddies

Unfortunately, the girls didn’t ever sit together for a matching photo, but there’s still time left before they outgrow these shirts (which I got for a super deal—thanks, Children’s Place!)

Ruffles and Ribbons and Bows

One of my dear aunts loves all things frilly, and the title of this post is something she exclaimed while shopping for her wedding dress several years ago.  She also loves her nieces (my sister and I), and loves her grand-nieces.  She sent my girls matching (yea!) dresses to wear, and they’re darling!  K. and N. are so blessed to have such wonderful family in their lives.

N: “Do you remember where I put my teeth?”

Mama and girls.  Thanks, Daddy, for being willing to take our picture.  Sorry, daddy, that I dragged you outside while your lunch waited inside.  Sorry also that the dogs swiped your lunch and ate it while you were outside taking pictures and wrangling the baby (Dad’s in the first picture, though you can’t actually see him).        And the tongue thing?  I must have learned it from the baby.

Six Spectacular Months

The littlest one is six months old today!  It’s been a wonderful six months—she is, for the most part, an easy baby.  She is well-tempered and smiley, and content most of the time.  N. has become quite engaging and loves being around people—if you’re in the room with her, then turn to leave, she will often cry.  She still doesn’t have a ton of hair—just a bit of sweet fuzz, but she doesn’t mind wearing headbands.  Her eyes are a beautiful blue and her cheeks are amazingly edible!On the “skills” front, N. can roll over (front-to-back and back-to-front) and even recently discovered that she can push up on all fours and lift her belly off the ground and rock.  My prediction is that this girl has places to go and she’s going to start crawling at some point in the next couple of months. {Love}

Sweet Smiling Sisters

Finally, the girls both smile!  My next goal is to get them to look at the camera simultaneously while smiling, though I’ll happily take what I can get.  Here’s the best:And here are the others that capture some cute moments: The secret behind the smiles?  Dad was standing behind Mom playing around with a broom that he periodically “threatened” the girls with.  Hilarity ensued.P.S. The white things under K’s skirt are attached white shorts.  Nothing indecent here.

  “What is all this stuff Mom keeps shoving at my face?”

“Hold on…I have to eat food?  Solids?”

[note sarcasm]: “Wowee Mom.  Food!  Yippee!”

Just the Girls

Though I prefer to be behind the camera, I like to have pictures of me with the girls (and really, I need to pull the tripod out so we can get Dad in the picture, too, but have you ever tried to take a timed photo with a two-year-old and a baby?  Yeah, it works about as well as you imagine it might.  So we stick to the two-kids-with-one-parent pictures.)

 

K: “Hee hee, I can’t believe Mom’s trying to get a picture of the three of us!”

Mom: “Smile…or else…”

N: “Pfffffbt.”I think the next one is the best one of the bunch—I’m a little funny but K. looks like a total angel in it. This one is a little better of me, but I am visibly squishing both girls.
