The Best Medicine

I wasn’t sure which video was better, so I included both since they’re not very long.  There might be no sweeter sound than that of a baby laughing.  The crazy laugh at the beginning is mine, but N. thought it was funny so I went with it.

Happy Houndstooth

So I might have to find a different time of day to try to make the girls pose for photos—right after church is not really ideal for either of their schedules; the only expression they can manage is a frown.At least there’s no crying.

The closest either of them got to smiling while the camera was pointed in the correct direction:

If I thought it would interest her, I would totally sign K. up to be a model.  I can say with some certainty that, though I find her to be a beauty, her personality would not be well-suited to it.  I actually think she’ll grow up to be an engineer.

What’s with the chomping on their hands?  Oh—lunch is eminent.  Note K’s bracelet, which she actually wore all day!  I’m proud of her ability to keep an accessory on.  Oh, and I made some bracelets to go with some of her spring clothes and showed them to her.  After only seeing the pairings once, she remembered which bracelet went with which shirt, even if she’d only ever seen the shirt once!  

Matching cheek indentations—though hers isn’t as prominent as K’s, I think N. might have a dimple too.  Same side as me (and K.)!  Yea for genetics.

K, tormenting me.  She would put the little blanket in her mouth (ick) and then touch me with it (ick) and thought it was hilarious when I would get grossed out.  Hey, whatever it takes for her to show her beautiful smile.

Taking a Stroll

K. asked me to carry her stroller downstairs so she could play with it, and she had it pre-loaded with her toys.  She had fun pushing it around the kitchen with bear and…

…let’s take a closer look, shall we?Bear?  Check.  Sippy cup?  Check.  Container of nails and screws?  Check.  Sweetly, all items are buckled in safely. 

Grandma Smiles

Grandma A. was in town for work, so she stopped by to say hello.  The girls had fun seeing her, and it’s fun that K. recognizes people now when they come over.

Amazing Auntie Weekend

This past weekend, the girls’ aunties and great-grandma came to visit!  The same aunts came when K. was four weeks old, and it was wonderful to have them!  They played with the girls and helped me out and fed us, but even more than that I just really enjoyed being able to spend more time with my beloved family. The first day, there was much playing and getting to know each other.  (Though K. has met her aunts and great-grandma before, it had been a while since she’d seen them, so they were “new” to her). A little bit of one-on-one play time:  Great-Grandma helping K. put a dress on one of her dolls. N. was surprisingly interested in one of K’s dolls, which looks similar to her.  I know that babies like faces, but didn’t realize that they didn’t have to be real people faces.

More tummy time.  N. has started to actually reach out and touch things purposefully, and doesn’t hate being on her stomach as much.  She loves looking out at the world.And on Saturday, Aunt J. and Grandma and Grandpa also came for a visit.  See how excited N. is to see them?!   Grandma playing cars with K.    And snuggling with the baby (who she had to pry out of the aunties’ arms to take her turn). With Grandpa, who probably taught her to stick out her tongue like that.K. and Grandma, just before our lovely lasagna lunch:  N. teaching Grandma how to make faces and smile:   Auntie D. crocheted pink sparkly headbands for everyone…even the two guys.  Being good sports, they wore them for the photo as well. My family:  Four generations; three sets of sisters:   K. surprised us this weekend by proving that she actually knows all of the letters as well as the sound that each letter makes!  I think that last month she wasn’t sure of anything past A.  I’m so proud of the little peanut! And no blog post is complete without N. looking happy.  She’s snuggling with her new doll here.  You can see that she’s started to grab things; more times than not she grabs the doll and ends up holding her hand.  Coincidence?  I think not.  Auntie D. took K. outside and taught her how to build a snowman.  K. was a little afraid that she might fall over in the snow, but she had great fun.  By the time they came in, the snowman even had a necklace of snowballs.  We asked K. what the snowman’s name was.  “K.” she replied. K, getting a good look at her snowman.  K, Auntie D, and the snowman (who was taller than K.)  We brought N. outside and showed her the snowman.  She was interested. And so cute in her little hat (knit by Auntie M) and her pink fleece snowsuit from my friend H.  And here N. is sporting another hat that M. knit.  I had emailed M. before N’s birth, concerned that my winter baby’s head might be cold, and she sent me some beautiful homemade knit hats. N. with Auntie M. and Great Grandma, who N. is named after!   What a wonderful weekend!  What a gift my family has given me, and how immeasurably blessed I am!  (And so blessed my girls are too, but they don’t know it yet).

Oh, Where is My Hairbrush

K’s motor skills get better every day, and she can actually brush her hair now.  She has fun, but I think that some of it is that she just likes to look at herself in the mirror.  Not for vanity so much, just because it is interesting. 

And she’s started to try to pull her hair back, too.  She does with her doll hair as well, with limited success.

And I think my little one looks so grown up here!
