Curly Crafty Crafty

Despite my own upbringing with limited hair accessories, I like to decorate the hair/heads of my children.  I think it’s more because I like the excuse to craft, rather than being particularly attached to accessorizing (unlike an unnamed friend of mine who greets me not with “hello” but with “where is N’s headband?”).  The newest craft I’ve wandered into making are the so-named “korker” ribbons popular with toddlers and cheerleaders.  I was certain that I would set my house aflame or at least melt ribbon all over my oven, but alas I did not, and I have some finished products to show for my work.

Here are K’s pigtails with ribbons.  She likes the way they bounce when she turns her head from side to side.

And N’s ribbon, attached to a headband.  I made a couple of others, too, but I’ll spare you the millions of photos.  You get the idea.

Multi-Generational Sleeper

One of my mom’s favorite characters is Snoopy (who, since I don’t use names on the blog, we will hereafter refer to as “S”—kidding).  The following is a sleeper that both my sister and I have worn, and now both K. and her sister have worn it as well.

Afternoon Accessorizing

After playgroup on Tuesday, the girls were just hanging out.  I have acquired some new “hair accessories” for N.  (I use that term loosely, as she doesn’t really have hair so much so they’re more like “head accessories.”)

Here’s the before:  And the after.  She’s all coordinated.

“Mmm, not sure how I feel about this.” And of course, K. wanted in on the accessorizing (“Hair…band…flower”).

“Hey, I look pretty cute!” K. played in front of the mirror for a while, admiring.

Pink Monday

N, wearing an outfit from her cousin.  N. smiles daily, now, and I can almost always make her smile.  It always warms my heart—there are few things as wonderful as baby smiles! So she maybe? has a dimple on her left cheek.  You can kind-of see it in the first and last pictures here.  What do you think?  It’s not particularly prominent, but I think she has one?  K. does, and so do I, so it would be fun if she has one and I’m not just imagining it.  Regardless, though, she’s a beauty.

Silly Sunday

Sock it to Me

The girls’ great Auntie D has been busy knitting, and made the girls matching socks!  Too cute!  I admire anyone who knits well.  Sure, I’ve made a couple of dishcloths.  And then I made a small, play dishcloth for K’s kitchen because I got too bored/distracted to make it any bigger.  And I made a scarf for my mom once…well, started making a scarf.  I gave up about 10 inches into it and gave it to K. to use as a blanket for her dolls.  All that to say, if I had the skills to knit socks (which I don’t.  I can’t purl or knit in the round), it would be a miracle for me to complete a sock, and I would likely never make it’s mate, to say nothing of a set for the other daughter.

So my girls are lucky to have their special Aunties who can make precious, homemade goods for them.

K’s socks.  I don’t know how Auntie D. did it, but they’re a perfect fit!  Please pardon K’s funny face…and funny outfit.  I’m proud of the fact that my daughter can change her own clothes at will.

Similar Swinging Sisters

Two girls, happy in their swing.  Yes, they make similar faces and have a few shared features, but close-up they have a lot of differences.  They’re both wearing long sleeves, though, so you can’t tell a seasonal difference.  Do you, gentle reader, still know which is which?

Sharing Sisters: Saturday

Just a nice, relaxing of Saturday of the girls playing together. Thank goodness the camera didn’t capture the fit that took place when K. was told she needed to share the toys that she brought downstairs, especially since they did belong to N.

“Who, meeee?  Have a tantrum?  Never!  Just look at how sweet I am!” “Oh, so this is what you keep referring to as a ‘toy.’  Am I just supposed to look at it?  Gee, that’s exciting.” “Here, fishy fishy!”

Future Wrestler?

Perhaps K. has a future as a pro wrestler.  She loves wrestling with Daddy, and N. is even getting in on the action. Just wait until N. is bigger and the girls can double-team Dad! And poor Dad—rather, his poor arm.  He’s tough, though, and wasn’t troubled by this. Ewww, though.

Dishpan Hands

K is at an age where she’s really interested in mimicking Mom and Dad (for better or for worse) and she really wants to be helpful.  While she can’t do everything an adult could do (or even a three-year-old), she can help out with some tasks.  And I am, of course, very interested in nurturing this side of her so it becomes a habit…before she loses interest entirely.She was interested in my loading of the dishwasher.  Sharp knives stand in the way of her opportunity to help, but I let her hand wash our trivets.  She likes to play in the water any way, so this was especially fun for her.  Wait until she sees the pot with the baked-on rice she gets to tackle tomorrow.  She’s wearing her new tool belt. She often asks for a belt, and I realized she wanted one to hold her tools.  I looked for a suitable child tool belt but did not find one; a trip to the hardware store yielded an apron with pockets and loops.  I attached a wide strap and Velcro rather than having it require tying, and she’s good to go. I love my kitchen helper!

Sister Love

The girls were hanging out a bit this morning—I had set N. down in the recliner while I put some dishes away, and K. was talking to her.  K. started spinning the recliner (slowly), and N. really had fun!  I’m not sure if it was the thrill of the chair or just that attention was being paid to her (I think I have two girls who love an audience, and I’m just a teensy bit worried).  Oh, but they are so sweet!

Here is K. spinning N. in the chair.  Note the smile!  I know it’s early for the girls to play together, but I’m starting to see glimmers of what the future holds.  I think they’ll really enjoy each other.And N. sure had a good time:After the chair ride, K. sat up in the chair with N.  We tried to get N. to smile again, so here K. is tickling N.  Which doesn’t really work. K’s getting more interested in her sister.  Note the gummy vitamin in her hand.  I guess I’ve bribed her often (with her daily vitamin—does that make me a bad mom?), so the moment she was sitting in the chair and noticed the camera, she asked for her vitamin.  Mmmm, so sweet! And I cannot believe how beautiful K. is getting!  I was looking at some of her pictures from just a few months ago, and she really has grown up a lot.  I knew she seemed bigger to me once the littlest one arrived, but she actually looks older, too.
